As you may already know, Jenaly was the first company in the nation to earn the inaugural CompTIA Security Trustmark in January 2009. The release of the CompTIA MSP Partners Trustmark continues CompTIA's initiative to credential businesses in the IT industry that are providing outsourced technology services their clients. It's important for consumers of IT services to have a reliable benchmark to hold their partners to and as the global, vendor-neutral IT trade association, CompTIA is the right organization to provide this assurance. The security of your IT infrastructure is a very important and continually evolving thing. It always bothers me when I meet with prospective clients and they poo poo my recommendation to install a robust firewall appliance on their network or implement a secure password policy. Fortunately, I don't run in to this as often as I used to, but occassionally I see a consumer router or just the ISP modem and no firewall. Personally, I like the Cisco ASA 5505 series and they are not expensive, certainly not compared to the potential damage or bad PR that could come with a security breach. These days, when you call in to an airline like JetBlue, you are likely to talk to a reservations agent who is working part-time from home and is logged into the company's reservation system and talking to you on a voice-over IP phone connection, not a traditional copper telephone line. The ability to work remotely extends to all types and sizes of businesses, and it propels bu... Last modified on Continue reading
As summer winds down over the upcoming Labor Day weekend, and the kids all head back to school, we all tend to transition out of a more relaxed summer mode and into a more focused fall mode. This transitional time is a perfect opportunity to revisit plans or make new plans for your business through the end of the calendar year and beyond. As this relates to information technology, there is a very compelling incentive. It is called the Section 179 Tax Deduction. Let me preface what I am about to tell you by saying you absolutely should discuss this with a qualified tax professional, most likely your accountant, and have them verify if your business is able to take advantage of this ...
