From the Desk of MJ Shoer
While Jenaly is a business focused IT services firm, meaning we cater to businesses, not consumers, I wanted to share some important business technology that has been brought to the consumer market. If you have kids at home, you want to know about these two great products. The first is eBlaster Mobile from Spectorsoft Corporation. Spectorsoft is a software company that makes excellent monitoring tools for corporate IT networks. Their Spector 360 installs and runs on a network in stealth and allows managers to monitor their employees Internet and computer activity to be sure it is in compliance with company policies. eBlaster Mobile is an extension of this technology for smartphones. If you have a kid with an Android or Blackberry smartphone, eBlaster Mobile can provide you with a daily report of phone calls and text messages sent and received. It also uses the phones GPS to provide you with a location history of where your child has been. It’s an important tool in monitoring your kids activity and keeping them safe. Another great technology is Cyberoam firewalls. Cyberoam has just launched a home version called NetGenie. NetGenie’s Family Protection feature requires each user to login to use the Internet. The device replaces your home wireless or hard wired router and monitors all traffic. You can set users up with age appropriate filters and easily manage exceptions to those rules to keep your family safe while online at home. The built in reports provide an excellent way to monitor what goes on behind closed doors or just in general. Another invaluable tool to keep kids safe and a big step up from the consumer wireless routers available at most retailers. Out of the box, these firewalls provide better protection to your computers by scanning all traffic coming and going with anti-virus and anti-spyware filters and the wireless network is secure the moment you turn it on. Both of these technologies have come from the business market to the consumer market. We’ve employed both at numerous clients for years, with excellent results. We’re excited to see them come to the home market. If you want to learn more about how you can keep your home networks as safe as your office network, give us a call at 603-431-7864. Be safe online!
